Reservation Information and Refund Policy
For many students, the Residence Hall Reservation Form and Residence Hall Contract which you receive a copy of with your assignment, may be one of the first legal agreements signed. For this reason, it is important for students and parents to read over the information and understand the conditions that apply to the reservation deposit.
Reservation for residence hall space may be made only after admission to the University has been granted.
The official copy of the Residence Hall Contract must be signed when a student enters the hall. The contract includes meals and is binding for the entire academic year or remaining portion thereof unless the student is expressly released in writing from by the Department of Housing and Dining Services. The $150 Housing Deposit serves as both a reservation fee and contractual guarantee. To receive refunds, all cancellations must be made to Housing and Dining Services by emailing assign@colostate.edu or by phone at (970) 491-4719.
Full Refund of Deposit
This will be made to students who enter the residence halls and fulfill the academic year contract. The $150 deposit is returned to the student, near the end of the spring semester unless the student wishes to apply his or her deposit to a room selection reservation to live in the residence halls the following year. Students academically dismissed or graduating at the end of fall semester will have their deposit credited to their accounts in January.
Partial Refund
A partial refund of $100 will
be made to applicants who cancel their residence hall reservation before July 1 (or January 1 for spring semester). To be eligible for a refund, cancellation requests must be made directly to the Department of Housing and Dining Services.
A partial refund of $50 will be made to applicants who make a cancellation request between July 1 (January 1 for spring semester) and the day the halls open, even though the reservation may have been made on or after that date.
No Refund
No refund is given for cancellations received between opening day and the day classes begin or to applicants who have not checked in by noon of the day before classes begin for the requested semester.
Charge
A charge of $150 is made when students
leave the residence hall system during the academic year. Renewal
students are bound by the Room Selection Renewal Reservation policy.
Roommate Selection
Most incoming students at CSU live with someone new and come
to college without a chosen roommate. Group living may be a new and exciting
experience for you that is sure to result in new friendships and may bring
new challenges in communication, cooperation, and compromise. If
you know someone you would like to room with, both you and your roommate
choice should follow the instructions listed below.
If you have a roommate in mind:
Your Residence Hall Housing Application must be filled out requesting the same priorities (hall and Residential Learning Community preferences). This enables us to assign you to the same hall if space is available. If one of you requests a standard hall and the other a suite hall, you cannot be placed in the same hall. Both of your Residence Hall Housing Applications must request each other as roommates. If only one person requests the other, we have no way of knowing if both of you desire that arrangement. In that case, we will deliberately not place you together.
Submit your Residence Hall Housing Application online around the same time. This way you both will have the same date priority. If one request reaches us before the other, the requested hall may not be available when the second request is received.
Please discuss the questions listed below,
and any others you can think of, with your roommate choice:
- When does each of you like to study and for how long?
- How will guests be handled?
- What property can be shared? What cannot be shared?
- How often will you clean the room? How will the cleaning be shared? What is considered clean or messy?
- How much privacy is needed?
- When do you like to go to bed and get up?
- Do you sleep with the windows open or closed?
If you would like to be assigned a roommate:
The information you provide on your Residence Hall Housing Application
will
be used to match you up with a roommate. Roommate matches are based on
living style and interests.
Discrimination based on race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin is contrary to the purpose and policies of Colorado State University and violates the spirit and intent of the civil rights laws of Colorado.
