Housing & Dining Services is committed to sustainability. Through innovative programs and outreach initiatives we work to reduce waste, preserve natural resources, and support environmentally friendly building and purchasing practices. Here are a few of our initiatives:
Get Your Hands Dirty at the Democratic National Convention!
Volunteer to be Part of the Green Team at the DNC, Aug 25-28, 2008 in Denver!
In 2008, CSU placed 2nd in RecycleMania, a national recycling competition among more than 400 colleges and universities across the country.- The purchase of 3,023,787 kWh of renewable energy for the 2007/2008 academic year for all public areas of the department including dining centers, administrative offices, lobbies, and lounges.
- CSU was one of the 1st universities in the country to offer on-campus residents the option to purchase green power for their residence hall room or university apartment.
- Used cooking oil from our dining centers is collected and recycled to create biodiesel.
- Housing & Dining Services provides a recycling bin in each residence hall room and university apartment to encourage students to recycle.
- The Leave It Behind Program, a donation program that collects unwanted items from students during move out, collected a record 21 tons in 2007 for local charities.
