America Recycles Day
November 15
LSC Plaza

America Recycles Day is a national event held each year to encourage Americans to recycle and purchase recycled products. Each year the Live Green team organizes an event on the Lory Student Center Plaza which includes informational booths set-up by various organizations to promote and educate students on recycling and sustainability. Students who sign an "I Pledge to Recycle" card are entered to win a Ford Escape Hybrid in a national drawing and a Recycled Cycles bike in a CSU drawing!

RecycleMania
January - April

RecycleMania LogoRecycleMania is a 10 week recycling competition among nearly 100 universities. In just its second year competing, CSU placed 4th and beat CU and BYU! On campus recycling increased 5% during the competition. The Live Green Team and student groups partner up to increase awareness of recycling during the competition and produce posters, table cards, and lobby displays to share results. In addition to the national competition, the Live Green Team also sponsors an on campus competition among the residence halls and university apartments. The winning teams are presented with a traveling trophy at the Earth Day celebration.

Rock Away with Earth Day
April 22
Lory Student Center West Lawn

Each year the Live Green Team co-sponsors the Rock Away with Earth Day celebration with RHA (Residence Hall Association) and ASAP (Association for Student Activity Programming). The celebration focuses on all aspects of sustainability and features booths, live entertainment, and games. Information is shared on waste reduction, energy conservation, alternative transportation, renewable energy, green products, composting, and recycling. The event is held on the West Lawn of the Lory Student Center and is open to the CSU and Fort Collins communities.

Leave-It-Behind Program
Each May During Finals Week

All Residence Halls

Each year, students moving out of the residence halls are encouraged to leave unwanted items like clothing, electronics, non-perishable food, furniture, and school supplies behind rather than throwing them out. In 2006, 21 tons of items were collected for local charities. Facilities Management provides bins in the residence hall lobbies to collect small items and large corals are set up behind the residence halls to collect large items. This year, items were collected to benefit Habitat for Humanity and the Food Bank for Larimer County.

Moving Assistance Program
Each August During Move In
All Residence Halls

Housing and Dining Services employees, along with Fraternity and Sorority volunteers, assist students with moving into the residence hall rooms each year during move in. Volunteers also collect cardboard boxes for recycling. This free service is available from 8am to 5pm on move in day (typically the Thursday before classes start).

Volunteers wear "Welcome to Colorado State University" T-shirts. Volunteers help unload your vehicle and carry your stuff right to your room --- even the top floor! As part of our commitment to the environment, volunteers also assist with recycling all cardboard packaging. The Live Green Team sponsors cardboard corrals to capture moving boxes. In 2005, 16 tons of cardboard were collected for recycling.

All Residence Halls and University Apartments

In 2004 CSU became one of the first universities in the nation to offer on campus residents the option to purchase green power. Each student who signs up for green power offsets 930 pounds of carbon monoxide. The fee for green power is $17 per academic year for Residence Hall students and $26 per semester for apartment residents. The fee represents the cost difference between green power and standard coal-fired electricity. green power operates just like standard electricity and is fed into CSU's power grid so students on green power experience no change in their electricity service. Sign up for green power today!
